Luang Prabang Hydropower Project

Building Tomorrow, Sustaining Traditions

The Luang Prabang Hydropower Project is PVD’s most ambitious ongoing development, combining advanced engineering with comprehensive resettlement and livelihood restoration programs.

Located 25 kilometers upstream of Luang Prabang city, the project is designed as a run-of-river hydroelectric barrage with a total installed capacity of 1,460 MW. Construction progress has reached 64%, with completion expected by 2029 and commercial operation by 2030. PVD is responsible for resettling 1,593 households across 20 villages, supported by extensive infrastructure development including over 146 kilometers of new roads and multiple bridges. Beyond physical relocation, PVD implements community development programs covering health, education, gender equality, and livelihood restoration, ensuring that affected families transition into sustainable futures.
