Xayaburi Hydropower Project

Engineering Energy, Empowering Lives

The Xayaburi Hydropower Project is one of Laos’ landmark energy developments, showcasing PVD’s capacity to deliver large-scale resettlement and infrastructure programs alongside advanced hydropower technology.

Situated 80 kilometers south of Luang Prabang, Xayaburi is a run-of-river hydroelectric power plant with an installed capacity of 1,285 MW. PVD’s role extends beyond engineering, encompassing the resettlement of 663 households across 14 villages. The project included the construction of new homes, schools, temples, and community centers, ensuring that displaced families could rebuild their lives with dignity. With features such as fish migration systems, navigation locks, and modern transmission lines, Xayaburi demonstrates how hydropower can integrate environmental and social considerations into its design.
